As part of the Etsy team I belong to “The Handmade Division” we try to participate in a monthly blog. Yes, we’ve been lagging due to our website redesign among other things.

This month’s topic is What is Your latest Project and Why.

We originally started our parent company we call The Metal Gardener in 2007 when Jon decided to leave the metal shop where he had apprenticed and go out on his own. He intended to make sculptures, lighting and other functional art with metal. You can view his site at http://www.themetalgardener.com.

After we started WATTO Distinctive Metal Wear, we made that a DBA (doing business as) under The Metal Gardener.  It is our accessories division and has more of a rock and roll edge.

In July we plan on doing an art show where we combine the two. We will have one 20 x 10 foot tent showcasing both of our lines. Therefore Jon has diligently been working on some new creations for the show.

Here are just a few of the items he is planning on showing. These are works in progress so check back in a month or so to see finishes!

Work in Progress- Lamp & SculpturesEggs- Sculpture in progress

Sculptures in Progress in Jon's Workshop

Tulip Yard Art

Lamp, mini sculpture & frame

Please visit our other team member blogs to see what they are up to!

Skulls are HOT!
Why? Because they have so many meanings to so many different people and cultures.
Though many people associate the skull with death and negative imagery, it actually has a wealth of meanings and symbolisms. The skull can symbolize motality, power  & strength.

Mystical Meanings
According to Craig Hamilton-Parker of the book “Hidden Meaning of Dreams” gypsies viewed skulls as representing wisdom from their ancestors. http://www.dreamsleep.net/skull-dream-interpretation.html
Dia de los Muertos
Day of the Dead or Dia de los Muertos is a 3000 year old hispanic holiday where family friends gather to pray and honor freinds and family who have passed on. The spirits of ancestors are called upon to live among the living. Since the skull represent death and life, it is a major symbol for the holiday.
